Hope you had a merry christmas.

I’m late with this, but it’s the thought that counts. Imagine looking back at this website in the near future when we’re all rich and famous. These holiday wishes shouldn’t be missing from the 2008 archive.

SEGA SATURN

Thank you for still passing by VGV.  2009 should fill up with fun stuff fast. Either that, or I do end up chasing a career in acting. Who knows?

Have a prosperous 2009!

Ps. Found the Saturn in Tokyo for 1900 yen (12 euro’s). It arrived by boat 2 weeks before Christmas. Button Reference.

GMR Magazine kicks the bucket – Intellectual Dutch Gamers Moarn

Posted in News | Comments Off

Ironic isn’t it? If you consider the newspost I made below this one…

My mailbox is currently the scene of a moarning gathering of freelance writers and full time staff members who have all had the pleasure to contribute to one of the most intelligent and thought through game magazines in Holland: GMR. I am honored to have had the opportunity to see the 2nd and 3rd magazine article that I have ever published end up in GMR Magazine.

This is not a fun way to reach the end of 2008. [Picture]

HME Coverage – GMR Magazine sells out at publisher’s booth.

Posted in Events, Holland | Comments Off

Good timing to have gotten my article on this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2008 in there. Right before the visitors of ‘Het Media Event’ bought up all the GMR Magazines at the HUB booth.

Too bad nobody could give me an exact count. I bet it’s in the thousands. No! Millions!

Next time you put your top of the line Apple computers on display with a working internet connection, make sure you block porn sites. Macs can do that, right?

Posted in Events, Holland | 1 Comment »

Activision booths

Even though the only game publisher at ‘Het Multimedia Event’ was Microsoft, Call of Duty: World at War was playable at 4 different gaming booths. It was for sale at many more. Let’s start the count, shall we?

  • - MSI’s booth: playable
  • - Microsoft’s booth: playable
  • - ESL’s booth: playable
  • - Asus’s booth: playable
  • - Game shop Twente booth: for sale
  • - Random booth: for sale
  • - We got tired and stopped looking

HME Coverage – Microsoft rules HME. Sort of.

Posted in Events | Comments Off

The unexpected happened during ‘Het Multimedia Event‘: Sony and Nintendo didn’t show up. When there’s a big game related consumer event around the corner, we usually take it for granted that the ‘big three’ are in it together. On the other hand, we heard rumors of 100+ demo booths at the Microsoft booth.

We only counted 48…

VGV@Hét Multimedia Event – Original names apparently cost money.

Posted in Events | 1 Comment »

Have you ever met a person with an extremely funny name and tried not to laugh, but horribly failed at it? That’s how Patrick and I felt when walking into this event. What was formerly known as the HCC dagen, something I considered a traditional annual meeting for the PC and game afficionados of Holland, has changed over the years. A lot. Now it’s known as ‘Het Multimedia Event’. Cleverly translates into ‘THE Multimedia Event‘ in English.

HME

Main cause of all the major changes? Lot’s of politics and different groups with different interests. Sigh.

The result? Nothing to be happy about, but we had fun. It reminded me of this year’s E3: The event has changed, but thank god the people haven’t.

The future? Let’s hope the visitor count was good. The event will need to build up some serious street cred before next year. If you guys are reading this, VGV also does consulting and event management ;) !

Some visitors we spoke told us they thought the event didn’t live up to it’s name or goal. We just felt sorry for the guy trying desperately to sell sushi in the gaming area. He even lowered his prices twice, with no success…
